From Hillary Rea, founder of Tell Me A Story.

As part of my Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts, I am delving into new territory with audio storytelling. The above piece is my first audio story ever. Through a 4-week audio workshop at WHYY, I used borrowed field equipment, an official WHYY vocal recording booth and taught myself Hindenburg Journalist as much as I could.

Prince Lady is a piece about Karen, a Philadelphia employee of the Postal Service and a Prince devotee. In my eyes, she is a local legend and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down and interview her and tell her story. I hope you enjoy listening.

In July I am headed to Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies for a week-long audio storytelling intensive. I'm excited to learn this new medium and create even more pieces in the near future.

UPDATE: Prince Lady aired on WPRB 103.3 FM (Princeton, NJ) on Wednesday June 22, 2016 as part of Julia Factorial's 3 hour radio show. A huge thanks for Julia for playing this story over the airwaves.
