Crafting Your Narrative: Solo Retreat

An immersive two-month 1-on-1 program for people in the public eye who want to get to know themselves to their core.

Brainstorm, build, and deliver a well-crafted, true-to-you narrative that transforms your relationship with your audience and yourself.

Being in the public eye is not about being the loudest voice. You don’t have to shout from the rooftops (er… Instagram) about your accomplishments, expertise, or even what you ate today in order to be authentic and gain credibility.

Most people who take that turn-up-the-volume approach talk about who they are and the work they do without taking the time to get to understand themselves on a deeper level. And with that disconnect, more energy is spent on convincing an audience to like them, rather than communicating who they are from the inside out.

When you get to know yourself and you trust that person deeply, your story becomes the confetti cannon.

Sharing a well-crafted, stand-out story in your very own communication style, will set you apart from anyone trying to follow a louder-than-thou formula. With craft, practice, and intention behind it, your story will activate and amplify while you get to stay cool, calm, and collected.

The Crafting Your Narrative: Solo Retreat will give you the 1-on-1 time, the tools, and the trust in yourself to get your Core Story.

And with this beautiful, powerful story in tow, you’ll also:

  • Increase your confidence. Not only will you experience an increase in confidence in yourself and your storytelling abilities, but you will increase your confidence in the effectiveness of those things. Plus, you’ll have total confidence in describing what you do and why you do it.

  • Improve your communication. You will eliminate the fear of using your voice and instead, you’ll be excited to share personal stories as a way of communicating your message because you know how it helps you to connect with your audience — whether that be an individual or a large crowd.

  • Take up space and have that feel good. You can promote yourself and your work in a way that feels good because you are proud of it and confident in your story’s ability to help others see you (and themselves) in a whole new way.

  • Book opportunities and expand your visibility. When big opportunities arrive you will have increased trust in yourself, your story, and your audience.

+ Who Should Do This

If you resonate with any of the experiences below, the Solo Retreat is for you.

  • You initially came into the public eye on a reality series or as a media personality. Now you’ve built a business and a platform for yourself that goes far beyond where you started. You want to be in control of how your story gets told. Plus you need a new story that matches the new stage of life and career that you are in.
  • You host a podcast and you want to bring more of yourself into each episode. Instead of free-styling a rambling list of the day’s thoughts and feelings, you want to be intentional about the stories that you share so that the podcast continues to be a must-listen show. You know that with a little bit more craft and strategy behind it, your podcast stories will build deeper, longer-lasting connections with your listeners. You also want to practice self-care and only share what's ready to become a story in the first place.
  • You work in traditional media and are gearing up for a press tour, book launch, or industry pitch. In addition to talking about the thing that’s being promoted, you want to be comfortable and confident with your own story so that you can represent yourself (and the project) in a stand-out way.
  • You’ve aged on the internet and your audience is holding on to an old version of who you are. Whether you’ve shared your life through video and social media content, or reached a large audience with your newsletter and blog, you need them to understand who you are now, what you are doing now, and why. You’d also like to have a better understanding of this for your own sense of self and purpose.
  • You are comfortable with getting uncomfortable. When it comes to personal and professional development opportunities you like to go all in, trust the process, and grow beyond what you even imagined was possible.

+ What You'll Get

By the end of your Solo Retreat you will have:

  • One fully crafted Core Story ready to share with your audience in a variety of ways.
  • A custom Story Bank of additional stories to craft and use intentionally and strategically.
  • Hillary's coaching and consulting on a project of your choice to be completed in Month 2 of the Solo Retreat (e.g. developing podcast Solo Episodes, interview preparation, crafting additional Story Bank stories, building out a signature talk)
  • A full personal narrative toolkit and session recordings that you can access and use at any time.

You'll also:

  • Gain a life-changing understanding of who you are as a person. (So that you won't have to pretend to be anyone else whilst in the public eye.)
  • Become a stronger storyteller. (So that you trust how you are communicating, knowing what it feels like and looks like to be prepared and tap into presence.)
  • Unlock your creative thinking. (So that you will start to see stories everywhere. You’ll have endless inspiration for content.)

I have this new perspective on what it means to show up as myself. What it means to talk the way I would talk, what it means to throw out the rules if that’s what I want to do. Because the rules don’t align with what I value or what I want to be doing.

It really gave me the confidence to believe in myself, in my story, and in the effectiveness of those things.
— Andrea

+ How the Solo Retreat Works

The Crafting Your Narrative: Solo Retreat is a two-month immersive experience:

Month 1: We meet once a week on Zoom for four consecutive 2-hour sessions. During our four 1:1 sessions you will develop your Core Story using the entire Tell Me A Story® Framework: Brainstorming, Preparation + Practice, and Strategy + Performance.

Month 2: We continue working together for 30 days via Voxer, an audio messaging app. During our audio messaging time, you will create and revisit your Month 2 Plan, and focus on one narrative-related project to complete. Though this time together is asynchronous, it is a coaching partnership with consistent check-ins for accountability and feedback. This includes content review (feedback and consulting) for any agreed upon Month 2 project.

Also included in your Solo Retreat:

  • Audio messaging via Voxer in between your Month 1 sessions
  • The Speak Up Kit (sent to you as a fun snail mail package!)
  • Recordings of your face-to-face Zoom sessions
  • A custom Client Dashboard with personalized resources
  • Tell Me A Story® Framework digital materials
  • Lifetime access to all of your Solo Retreat session recordings and digital materials

Note: Clients who consistently communicate with an audience (e.g. speaking engagements, press interviews, podcasts, video content) grow and thrive by continuing on in our 6-month Crafting Your Narrative: 1-on-1 Coaching partnership with Hillary after their Solo Retreat has ended. You can learn more about that program here.
